Fulbourn Grain Store

The Fulbourn Grain Store is a large silo built in the 1940s during the Second World War to store grain, not to be confused with the grain mills which were on the other side of the road.

There were very similar grain stores built around the country to the same design. One was at Water Eaton, also known as Kidlington Silo. They seem to differ only in a few ways at ground level, for example Fulbourn silo appears to have a floor or cellar with windows under the west wing, possibly under the east wing as well, which was not the case for Water Eaton. Water Easton was demolished.

Very early on it was extended with another tower at the end of the western wing, and since then more buildings and additions have been made around the original building.

Today it is owned and run by S&B Herba ltd, who process rice and split peas.

Situated on the outskirts of rural Cambridge, Fulbourn Mill was built in the 1940’s as a grain store during the Second World War. After extensive modification and improvement to the building, it became a rice mill in 1988. The site has continued to undergo development and now has two processing lines and three packing lines, including a new, fully automated packing line. The site is equipped to clean and fully mill from suppliers all over the world.

Rice Mills - Cambridge Products can be packed in 5kg, 10kg, 20kg, 25kg, and 1 tonne bags and can be supplied in Bulk tankers. The mill is also capable of cleaning, splitting, polishing and packing peas.

We have a storage capacity of 6,200 tonnes of bulk product. State of the art equipment includes magnets, metal detectors, destoners and colour sorting machines. We have a comprehensive quality system with three fully trained QA personnel on site.
